How To Stop Jealousy From Killing Your Progress

Hey there!

I’ve read a bunch of articles recently that kind of circle the drain that is self-sabotage and how performers can engage in that almost constantly.

One, written by Eddie Ramos in Backstage, captured the problem (and offered a simple solution) perfectly.

What Is The Overton Window?

Hey there!

We live in an age of stark political and social division, nearly instantaneous conflict on social media, and polarizing issues that are hard to find rational discussion.

Whew! And you wonder why some people don’t even want to crack a browser and see what’s going on in the world.

I may have a partial explanation as to why things are so raw these days: we may be spending too much time in the extreme edges of the Overton Window.

Let me explain.

Age Range Isn’t Really A Valid Metric For VO

Hey there!

I went to a meetup a few days ago, and had a conversation with one of the attendees there that started with her question:

Do You Still Have A Landline? Is It POTS? Wait, What’s POTS?

Hey there!

I thought I might be one of the last holdouts on having a landline telephone as well as a mobile phone, but it turns out I’m not.

But the term “landline” is changing, from what was POTS (plain old telephone service) to VOIP (voice over internet protocol).

Wha??

Pattern Interruption And The Musicality Of Voice Over

Hey there!

In a workout session with my clients, the idea of “pattern interruption” came up. This is a concept that revolves around what happens when you violate the expectations of a listener on purpose.

In particular, we talked about the melody we use when giving IVR users the action needed for a particular option, and the melody we use when beginning or ending a commercial with the product or brand name.

Here are the details.

Enjoy Your First Booking. Pay Close Attention To The Next Three.

Hey there!

How awesome did that first booking (the first PAID booking especially) feel?

(For those of you who have yet to book your first gig, trust me. It’s even better than you can imagine.)

Celebrate! Enjoy! Have a party! And then, get back to work.

And pay very close attention to the next three bookings you get. They can be extraordinarily valuable. Here’s why.
