Please Unsubscribe From This List. But Don’t Do This One Destructive, Lazy Thing.

Hey there!

I don’t ask for much, but here’s a simple request.

I completely understand if you want to unsubscribe from this list. I don’t want anyone on my list that doesn’t want what I have to offer, or doesn’t find value in what I have to share.

But some people are mistaken, or uninformed about how to properly do that. Or, just plain lazy. Or, have more nefarious intentions…

…if they do what I describe in this video.

The Often “Most Difficult” Concept I Teach

Hey there!

I just got off Zoom with a client who was having real difficulty accepting some advice I was giving him.

And I realized about halfway through the session exactly what the difficulty was.

It was not the concept itself, but his ability to accept it was as simple as it actually is.

The concept is simple. Acceptance of it can be unbelievably hard.

What Exactly Is “The Cloud?”

Hey there!

One of the features of Rehearsal® Pro, my app for actors, is that as you add highlighting and other markup to your scripts, record scenes for playback, etc. the app will automatically save all of those changes to the cloud.

That way, if you have more than one device, like an iPhone and an iPad, you can keep your scripts and sides on both devices synchronized.

But let’s back up for a moment…the cloud? What is that? Do you hear that phrase and nod politely?

Here’s what “the cloud” means.

How My VAs Support Me And My Team

Hey there!

Today, because I got a question on this from a viewer, let’s take a look at one of the crucial behind-the-scenes mechanisms of my process: my VAs.

What’s a VA? It’s the abbreviation for “virtual assistant,” and boy does she.

The word “virtual” has come to stand for AI as well, but that’s not the case here.

Meet one of my VAs, Stina.

The Struggle Of Announcer-y Versus Non-Announcer-y Voice Over

Hey there!

John Davenport recently left me a comment on one of my videos, the one on how I don’t think age range is a valid descriptor for voices.

He wrote, “I would love to hear you do a discussion about announcer versus non-announcer. So many of us who from the broadcast world who have been labeled as announcers in some genres of voiceover can’t seem to get work too much these days. Why do you think that is? Do you think it will change?”

Here’s what I think about that.

Do You Sometimes Think Irrationally? Maybe. Here’s How To Stop It.

Hey there!

I just watched a TED talk from psychologist Joan Rosenberg, and I thought what she had to say about irrational thinking was worth sharing with you.

Here are five ways you might be thinking, and how to stop each one.

It’s Not Just You. It’s The Superstars, Too.

Hey there!

I want to thank my ACX Master Class student Jim Cassidy, and my VO2GoGo Pro client Mike Russo for simultaneously bringing this bit of video to my attention. And I’m calling this to your attention incase you’re one of the last people in the world of audiobook narration that hasn’t seen this clip.

If you thought you were the only audiobook narrator who had trouble getting out a particular stream of words every now and then, let no less than the venerable Stephen Fry put your mind at ease with this moment at the Hay Festival recently, where he recounted a particularly difficult moment with his narrating of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
