You Don’t Need Permission To Care Or Contribute

hey there it’s David H Lawrence the 17th
and I’ve got a really simple message for
you today I was thinking about this
oddly enough as I was driving to the
movies I was thinking about having the
audacity to put yourself out there as a
performer and what that means and what
it made me think about was how some
people wait for permission from a
teacher or from a coach or from a
casting director from a director or from
a producer to do the things that they
really and truly care about
and I want to tell you something in
everything that you do not just your
performance the world needs you to act
now I don’t necessarily just mean acting
as a performer I mean to act to act on
the things that you really care about
and the world needs you to contribute
either time or money or effort or your
your storytelling skills whatever it is
to those causes that you truly care
about and the world needs you to do it
without you asking permission
here’s what I mean by that we often
worry
or doubt or hold back because we feel we
don’t have the training or we don’t have
the authority or we don’t have the
experience to do the things that we
really care about and that runs the
gamut from what we do for living to with
our families where we live how we work
what charities we work with what causes
we’re involved with the things that we
help other people in this world with and
I’m here to tell you you don’t need
anybody’s permission you want to go
volunteer somewhere
go do it
you want to contribute a little tiny bit
of money to something that really
matters to you go do it you want to be
active politically go do it and know
that when I say go do it I’m not saying
go do it after you get some training or
after you get the local Alderman’s
permission to be on the committee or
before you somehow get the impression or
notion that you’re prepared enough to do
it and to do it perfectly don’t wait
don’t think you need authority to do the
things that the world needs you to do
I hope I’m being clear about this I’m
not saying you know don’t just sit on
your ass and don’t do anything that’s
not what I’m saying what I’m saying is
don’t hold back don’t worry if you can’t
quite get it right and you want to go
down and work at the food bank or work
on Thanksgiving for a you know feeding
the hungry but you don’t know how to
cook turkey there’s gonna be somebody
there who will show you and they really
need your help
you know don’t wait don’t think you need
the authority or the permission of
somebody more exalted than you to do the
things that you really believe in I hope
this message reaches you right at the
moment that you need it because that way
it’ll kind of fall in line with the you
are all that’s needed you don’t have to
be a better version of yourself and
anything that you don’t have right now
you will be presented with right at the
moment that you need it but go do it
don’t wait don’t hold back
mess up a little bit get better at it
the next time does that make sense tell
